Preview Kagurabachi Manga Set to Receive Anime Adaptation, Premiere Month Revealed

After months of rumors circulating since 2024, Takeru Hokazono’s popular manga, Kagurabachi, will finally be adapted into an anime. This announcement was made by Shueisha during the “Jump Press” broadcast.

When is the Kagurabachi Anime Releasing?

Following months of speculation and exponential growth in its readership, it has been confirmed that the Kagurabachi anime will premiere in April 2027. The production will feature voice actor Taihi Kimura as the main character, Chihiro Rokuhira.

Tetsuya Takeuchi, known for his work on From Bureaucrat to Villainess and as a key animator for the Naruto franchise, will direct the project. Cypic studio will handle the animation, with Keigo Sasaki in charge of character design. The production is backed by a committee formed by Shochiku and CyberAgent. To promote the anime’s release, a “world tour” will commence in the third quarter of 2026, featuring a screening of the first 20 minutes of the initial episode. This tour will conclude in Japan in the second quarter of 2027 with a full showing of the first chapter.

What is the Story of the Kagurabachi Manga?

The story of the Kagurabachi manga begins during the Seitei War, when Kunishige Rokuhira was Japan’s most renowned swordsmith. He forged six enchanted swords, each imbued with a special power that secured the nation’s victory. After the war, Kunishige retired to the mountains with his son, Chihiro, who diligently began learning the craft. Approaching his fifteenth birthday, the sensible Chihiro decided to eventually succeed his father. However, his plans were shattered when he witnessed a group of powerful sorcerers murder his father and steal the sacred swords.

Three years after the incident, Chihiro lives with hatred in his heart and an intense desire for revenge. Wielding Enten, the seventh and final enchanted sword Kunishige secretly created, Chihiro eliminates the villains associated with the Hishaku, the organization he holds responsible for his father’s death. Chihiro has yet to unlock Enten’s full potential or perfect his swordsmanship, but he will stop at nothing to recover the stolen katanas, avenge his father, and honor the legacy he left behind.

The announcement also highlighted the work’s commercial success. Since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023, the manga has reached 4 million copies in circulation, a significant increase from the 2.2 million recorded in May 2025. This growth is reflected in its numerous accolades, including first place in the Next Manga Awards 2024 and nominations for the prestigious Shogakukan, Kodansha, and 2025 Eisner Awards.
