Preview Jérôme Rosenstiehl on Paris’s Attitude: “Pathetic and Despicable”

The initial video aimed to highlight William Pfister’s mistakes, while a second video released 48 hours later depicted Louis Labeyrie holding a fake banner that read, “Cancun, we’re going on vacation,” following SIG’s elimination in the playoff quarterfinals by the Parisian club.

Jérôme Rosenstiehl shared his reaction in the DNA newspaper:

“Regarding Louis, it’s provocative, and I find it pathetic. For William, it’s despicable, and I was the one who intervened with the league to have the video removed. I cannot tolerate one of my players being thrown to the wolves.

This is completely unacceptable and not befitting of a club that aims to be among Europe’s elite, or at least claims to be, especially when it has five times our budget. If every club sets its own disciplinary rules after a defeat, we’re heading for disaster and it will become completely unmanageable.

There’s a commission to judge these matters; it’s not for Paris to enact its own justice, nor for the players to assess whether a game was violent. That’s why I asked Philippe Ausseur (the president of the National Basketball League) to look into this matter closely.”

The first video intended to emphasize William Pfister’s errors, and the second, released 48 hours later, shows Louis Labeyrie holding a mock banner that read, “Cancun, we’re going on vacation,” after SIG’s elimination in the playoff quarterfinals by the capital’s club.

It was in the DNA newspaper that Jérôme Rosenstiehl reacted:

“Concerning Louis, it’s provocation, and I find it pathetic. For William, it’s despicable, and it was actually I who intervened with the League so that the video would be removed. I cannot tolerate one of my players being discarded.

This is totally unacceptable and is not up to the standard of a club that aspires to be one of the biggest in Europe, at least that claims to be, when it has five times our budget. If each club sets its own disciplinary rules after a defeat, we’re heading for trouble and it will become totally unmanageable.

There is a commission to judge these kinds of things; it is not for Paris to dispense justice on its own, nor is it for the players to evaluate whether a match was violent or not. This is why I asked Philippe Ausseur (the president of the National Basketball League) to look into this matter closely.”
