Italy’s Under-19 national team has successfully secured their place in the prestigious European Championship final tournament following a 1-1 draw against Turkiye.
This crucial encounter served as a direct showdown for the top spot in Group 6, with both teams entering the match tied on six points, surpassing Hungary and Slovakia.
The game concluded with a 1-1 scoreline, featuring a goal from Samuele Inacio for Italy, which was later equalised by Darvin Soylu for Turkiye. Despite the draw, the ‘Azzurrini’ clinched first place in the group due to their superior goal difference of +6, significantly better than Turkiye’s +2.
Under the guidance of coach Alberto Bollini, the Italian squad demonstrated strong form in the Elite Round, securing convincing 3-0 victories over both Hungary and Slovakia.
Group winners will advance to join host nation Wales in the final tournament. The official draw for this stage is scheduled to take place in Wrexham on April 16.
The tournament itself is set to run from June 28 to July 11. Beyond determining the European Under-19 champion, it will also serve as a crucial qualifying event for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will be held in Azerbaijan.
Italy’s most recent victory in the European Under-19 Championship was in 2023, complementing their previous success in the competition back in 2003.
