Following a highly successful debut season culminating in a Scudetto victory, Inter Milan is reportedly preparing to offer Cristian Chivu a contract extension through 2028. This new agreement will also include a significant increase in his wages.
The 45-year-old tactician has enjoyed an exceptional first year at the helm of the Nerazzurri, guiding them to the Serie A title with three matches still to play. He is now focused on preparing the team for the Coppa Italia Final against Lazio, scheduled for Wednesday.
Chivu was appointed last summer on short notice, just days before the Club World Cup, after Simone Inzaghi’s unexpected departure. He inherited a squad that had finished the previous campaign without any silverware.
Chivu Highly Valued by Inter
Inter President Beppe Marotta has consistently expressed his desire for Chivu to remain with the club for the long term, and these intentions are now being solidified with a new contract offer. According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport, Chivu has been presented with an extension that adds one year to his current deal, keeping him at the club until June 2028.
Crucially, his annual salary is expected to rise from the current €2.1 million to €3 million.
It is worth noting that this marks Chivu’s first full season as a senior team manager. He previously managed Parma for the final 13 games of the 2025 season, having spent the years between 2018 and 2024 coaching within Inter’s youth academy.
