Arc System Works has unveiled significant new details for Guilty Gear Strive, presenting version 2.0 of the game and the trailer for Jam Kuradoberi, the first DLC character of its fifth season. These announcements were made during the Top 8 of the Arc World Tour 2025-2026.
Guilty Gear Strive Version 2.0: Launch and Innovations
The fifth season of Guilty Gear Strive is set to commence on Thursday, April 9, 2026. The 2.0 update introduces substantial changes, most notably the complete removal of the Wild Assault mechanic. This feature, which was added in previous updates, will be replaced by a new mechanic called Counter Blitz. Described as both a defensive and offensive tool, Counter Blitz aims to rebalance the pace of matches.
Alongside this core gameplay alteration, a general balance update will be implemented, granting new special moves to various characters across the roster, including Leo, Nagoriyuki, Ky, and Sol Badguy.
Starting in May 2026, the game will also introduce the Blazing Pass, a battle pass system designed to reward players with cosmetic items. Through this pass, users will be able to acquire new accessories and outfits, such as a redesigned dress for Dizzy. Additionally, the “Haunted” color set, which gives characters a spectral aesthetic, and the “Vintage Metal” interface package will be added.
Guilty Gear Strive Season 5: First DLC Characters Revealed
The 2.0 update for Guilty Gear Strive will also include a brand new battle stage titled “Cradled by the Four Beasts.”
The fifth season pass will feature a total of four new characters. The first to join the roster will be Jam Kuradoberi, who will be available from April 9, 2026, coinciding with the launch of version 2.0 of Guilty Gear Strive. The release schedule for the remaining DLC characters in the fifth season is as follows:
- Robo-Ky: Scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
- Third character: Expected in the first quarter of 2027.
- Fourth character: Set for the second quarter of 2027.
