While Anbernic might be focusing on a square, rotating handheld console, other manufacturers are entering the crowded Android-based handheld market, altering the form factor to attract attention. The Gamemt E5 ModX is one such device that bets on a distinctive hardware element, showcasing one of the least conventional portable consoles. The key feature of the Gamemt E5 ModX is its modular design. Royibeila’s Twitter account, however, shared some more detailed images of the system.
It is a multifunctional combination that can be used as a controller, a horizontal handheld console, and a vertical handheld console. As can be seen in the prototype images, the screen can be completely detached, leaving only a controller that could connect to other devices via Bluetooth.

The P60 chip in the Gamemt E5 ModX allows for PSP, Dreamcast, and N64 emulation. For now, many more details are unknown, but the screen is expected to house the portable console’s processor, while the rest of the controls will be integrated.
It’s interesting to see the rendered images of this console, and some photos of a development unit have even been shared. These show the screen installed, a MagSafe controller adapter, and an iPhone connected to the MagSafe adapter. However, we must wait longer for an official announcement of the Gamemt E5 ModX, and of course, a release date with pricing included.
