Cristian Chivu has emphasized that Inter Milan securing both the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia is an accomplishment that “can never be taken for granted,” following their 2-0 victory over Lazio in the final.
After a season that saw the Nerazzurri end up empty-handed and demoralized, Chivu stepped in as head coach, succeeding Simone Inzaghi, and has guided the team to a league and cup double.
Having already clinched the Serie A title earlier this month, Inter delivered a dominant performance against Lazio in the Coppa Italia Final at the Stadio Olimpico.
This marks Inter’s 10th Coppa Italia title. It’s the first time they have won both the league and this cup competition since the era of Jose Mourinho, who led them to the historic Treble, including the Champions League, in 2010. Chivu was a player in that legendary squad and is now the coach.
Chivu’s Dream First Season as Inter Coach
Speaking to Sport Mediaset, Chivu stated, “Inter has won two trophies this season, and we earned them through a strong campaign.”
“We are all delighted with what we’ve overcome in these past few years, happy for our supporters, and pleased for the club that has consistently backed us.”
Inter will have the opportunity to parade both their trophies during a victory parade on an open-top bus through the streets of Milan on Sunday. They will receive the Serie A cup after their upcoming match against Verona, in addition to the Coppa Italia.
“We’ve won the League and the Coppa Italia; it’s something that should never be taken for granted, so we are extremely pleased.”
Inter’s previous Coppa Italia triumph was in 2023. With this latest victory, they have now won the competition 10 times, a figure surpassed only by Juventus, who have 15 titles.
