Gleison Bremer, a defender for Juventus, has publicly apologized after a significant defensive misstep contributed to the team dropping points in a home draw against Verona. The Brazilian center-back admitted that he could have performed better.
Bremer’s error occurred when he attempted to initiate play from the back within his own penalty area, aiming a pass for Pierre Kalulu. However, the pass was intercepted by Verona’s Bradaric. The Verona winger then quickly found Bowie, who was left unmarked and managed to beat Di Gregorio at the near post, giving the visitors the lead.
Bremer Acknowledges Need for Improvement After Juventus’ Stumble
Shortly after the final whistle, Bremer took to Instagram to offer a direct apology. “Today, due to a miscommunication, the mistake was mine,” Bremer wrote. “I take full responsibility, no excuses. I should have done better. Now more united than ever, until the end.”
The match was reportedly a challenging one for Bremer. He struggled to contain Bowie throughout the game, frequently losing aerial duels and physical battles.
Head coach Luciano Spalletti also commented on the error post-match, acknowledging it as a known aspect of his team’s gameplay. “Bremer and Kelly are two great defenders in terms of individual quality and in one-v-one duels,” Spalletti stated. “But in terms of building from the back, they do concede something; these are aspects we have to live with.”
This slip-up is likely to renew scrutiny on Bremer’s composure when in possession of the ball. It also brings renewed attention to comments the defender made in a press conference weeks prior. At the time, he said, “At Juventus, they have been treading water for six years, and that cannot happen. It is important to go back to winning. To be considered champions, you have to win, and I want to win.”
