A surprising turn of events for ASVEL! While their departure from the EuroLeague seemed increasingly likely in recent months, the French club reportedly intends to stay in the competition and compete next season with Tony Parker as head coach, according to Eurohoops.
Sources indicate that ASVEL’s management has expressed a desire to continue in the EuroLeague for the 2026/27 season. However, Tony Parker’s interest in a potential NBA Europe league could pose a significant obstacle to this goal.
This situation has led ASVEL to postpone the renewal of their A-licence, a mandatory requirement for continued participation in the EuroLeague. This puts the Villeurbanne-based club in a similar position to Real Madrid, which is also keenly interested in NBA Europe but is hesitant to leave or commit long-term to the EuroLeague.
In contrast, other teams like Fenerbahçe and Barcelona have opted to secure their positions within the C1 (EuroLeague) by ratifying new 10-year licenses.
