The choice of Evan Fournier has been called into question. After scoring 20 points in the EuroLeague final on Sunday, the French player was named MVP of the Final Four. This vote was contested, even by Alec Peters, his teammate at Olympiacos, who believes he was better positioned to receive the individual award, as he explained on Nova Sport.
“To be honest, I was the best player in the Final Four. I had such an impact in both games. All of this led us to win the EuroLeague. After the final, three people from the organization came to me and said, ‘You are the MVP,’ but then suddenly I heard Evan’s (Fournier) name and I said, ‘oh, okay.’ It was surprising, but I’m happy for Evan.”
More consistent across both games won by the Piraeus club, Alec Peters likely paid the price for having a less flashy profile. The forward displayed remarkable shooting accuracy (12/13 from the field), but Fournier single-handedly turned the tide of the final, both by scoring and creating for his teammates.
Despite this, the American is clearly not alone in advocating for his case. For instance, Monaco’s forward Jaron Blossomgame was also very surprised by the nomination of the former Nanterre player.
