UFC bantamweight fighter Douglas Silva de Andrade has been issued a six-month suspension by Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD), the organization`s designated anti-doping body.

The suspension stems from a positive drug test for furosemide, a prohibited diuretic, which occurred on February 14th. This positive result directly led to the cancellation of his scheduled fight approximately two weeks later against John Castaneda.

Following the positive test, Silva de Andrade provided CSAD with a dietary supplement he had been using. Laboratory testing of this supplement revealed the presence of furosemide, even though it was not listed as an ingredient on the product`s label. CSAD conducted further testing on a separate sealed container of the same supplement, confirming the contamination.

Despite evidence that the supplement was tainted and potentially the source of the positive test, Silva de Andrade still received a penalty. According to CSAD officials, while there was no indication of intentional use of the prohibited substance, the fighter did not adhere to the UFC`s Anti-Doping Policy, which mandates that athletes consume ONLY supplements that have undergone approved third-party testing.

Silva de Andrade`s six-month suspension commenced retroactively on February 28th, 2024. He will be eligible to return to competition on August 28th, 2024. The 39-year-old veteran holds a record of 7 wins and 6 losses within the UFC.
