Ronaldo Rodriguez`s rise in popularity has encountered a slight setback.
The well-known Mexican fighter exceeded the flyweight limit at the official weigh-ins on Friday for UFC Mexico, which is scheduled for Saturday at Arena CDMX. Rodriguez weighed 127 pounds, one pound over the limit (including the one-pound allowance for non-title fights). His opponent, Kevin Borjas, weighed in at 125 pounds for their main card fight.
The fight will proceed at a catchweight of 127 pounds. Rodriguez will forfeit 20 percent of his fight purse as a penalty.
In the main event, former two-time flyweight champion Brandon Moreno and recent title challenger Steve Erceg both successfully made weight, each hitting 125 pounds exactly, the championship limit. Moreno is currently ranked No. 4 in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, and Erceg is ranked No. 13.
Apart from Rodriguez, all other 25 fighters competing on Saturday in Mexico City successfully made weight.
