As MMA fighter Carlos Prates prepared for his UFC Kansas City bout against Ian Machado Garry, he received a message that deeply moved him.
The message was from a fan named Randy, who is battling esophageal cancer. As a result of his treatment, Randy was losing his hair and asked the Brazilian star, his favorite fighter, to shave his head when Prates arrived in Randy`s hometown. Prates was happy to fulfill this heartfelt request after landing in Missouri.
Meeting Randy on Wednesday, Prates commented on the profound impact of the encounter. He stated that Randy was teaching him a valuable lesson, highlighting how people often complain about minor issues while Randy faces a terminal diagnosis with immense strength. Prates was inspired by Randy`s refusal to give up, seeing it as a powerful life lesson for everyone. He expressed optimism for Randy`s recovery and hoped to see him again in a few months.
Keeping his promise, Prates shaved Randy`s head and also gifted him an authentic pair of Fighting Nerds glasses.
Spending time with Prates visibly brightened Randy`s day. This heartfelt meeting took place just before Prates competed in the UFC Kansas City main event on Saturday.
