Christopher Ewert`s brief tenure with the Ultimate Fighting Championship concluded in less than a week.
The undefeated middleweight was brought into the promotion on very short notice, stepping in for Sedriques Dumas to face Jackson McVey in the opening preliminary fight of UFC 317, scheduled for Saturday in Las Vegas. However, during the official weigh-ins held on Friday, the bout between Ewert and McVey was announced as cancelled, citing significant weight cutting difficulties experienced by Ewert.
On the official UFC weigh-in broadcast, it was revealed that Ewert had missed the designated limit by a substantial 10 pounds. As a direct consequence of this, he has since been released from the organization.
Despite the cancellation, Jackson McVey attended the UFC 317 official weigh-ins and successfully made weight, hitting the scale at 185 pounds. It was also stated that promotion officials are actively working to arrange a new fight for McVey as soon as circumstances allow.
Saturday`s event taking place at T-Mobile Arena is set to proceed with the remaining 11 fights. The card is headlined by a vacant lightweight title clash between former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira. The co-main event will see Alexandre Pantoja attempt his fourth defense of the flyweight title against challenger Kai Kara-France.
