Preview UFC 316 Medical Suspensions: Julianna Peña Out Indefinitely

Julianna Peña requires medical clearance for potential elbow and shoulder injuries before she will be allowed to compete again. This follows her submission defeat to Kayla Harrison in the co-main event of UFC 316 this past Saturday night.

The requirement comes directly from the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, which released the list of medical suspensions stemming from the Newark event. Peña`s name is prominent among the fighters facing mandatory time away from competition.

Peña`s fight concluded in the second round when Harrison secured a painful kimura, forcing the former champion to tap out. Consequently, the commission has issued an indefinite suspension for Peña. She must obtain clearance from an orthopedist specifically for her left elbow and left shoulder before being cleared to fight again.

The loss also meant Peña surrendered the women`s bantamweight title. She currently holds a 3-3 record in her last six bouts.
