Merab Dvalishvili versus Sean O`Malley 2. Is this the rematch everyone was eagerly anticipating? Perhaps not.
UFC 316 is set with its main event, featuring the current bantamweight champion defending his title against O`Malley. O`Malley is the same fighter he previously defeated to win the belt at UFC 306 last September. During their first encounter, Dvalishvili largely controlled the fight with his dominant wrestling. However, O`Malley argued post-fight that he believed his performance was better than the judges` scores indicated, and he has been advocating for a rematch ever since.
Subsequently, Dvalishvili successfully defended his championship against the undefeated contender Umar Nurmagomedov. Meanwhile, O`Malley spent time recovering from hip surgery. Now, O`Malley is granted another opportunity to face Dvalishvili on June 7th in Newark, New Jersey, without needing to compete in another fight beforehand.
