The fight card for UFC 316 has received a late addition.
The organization announced on Monday that a lightweight bout between MarQuel Mederos (10-1) and newcomer Mark Choinski (8-0) is scheduled for the preliminary portion of the event. UFC 316 is set to take place this Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Mederos was recently scheduled to compete at UFC Vegas 107 but was forced to withdraw due to illness. He is now cleared to return just one week later. With a 2-0 record in the UFC from decision wins over Austin Hubbard and Landon Quinones, he aims to maintain his perfect promotional run.
His opponent, Mark Choinski, brings an undefeated professional record of 8-0 into his octagon debut. Choinski most recently competed under the Anthony Pettis FC banner, where he secured a submission victory over John Ramirez. He was pulled from a scheduled APFC bout on June 15 to accept this opportunity in the UFC.
UFC 316 is headlined by a highly anticipated rematch for the men’s bantamweight title between champion Sean O’Malley and top contender Merab Dvalishvili. The co-main event features a significant women’s bantamweight clash as former champion Julianna Peña takes on promotional newcomer and multiple-time grappling world champion Kayla Harrison.
