Following UFC 314 in Miami, several fighters have been handed medical suspensions. Diego Lopes and Michael Chandler are among the notable names facing mandatory time off after the event.
The Florida Athletic Commission released the medical suspension list, revealing that 17 fighters require mandatory rest periods. A number of these suspensions are indefinite, meaning these fighters will need to be medically cleared before they are allowed to compete again.
Headlining the list is Diego Lopes, who fought Alexander Volkanovski in a gruelling five-round main event. Lopes received an indefinite suspension.
Due to Florida`s medical privacy laws, the specific reasons for Lopes` suspension are not public. However, indefinite suspensions typically indicate a potential injury serious enough for the commission to require a doctor`s clearance before the fighter can compete again.
Alexander Volkanovski, Lopes` opponent, received a standard 45-day medical suspension, although it was already unlikely he would compete again so quickly.
In the co-main event, Michael Chandler is suspended for 60 days. This follows the damage he sustained in his fight against Paddy Pimblett, which ended in a third-round TKO victory for Pimblett. Chandler suffered a significant cut on his cheek from a knee strike during the bout and will be sidelined for at least 60 days to recover.
Four additional fighters from the UFC 314 card also received indefinite suspensions. These include strawweight contender Virna Jandiroba, Chase Hooper, Marco Tulio, and Tresean Gore.
