Plans are being discussed to bring the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to the White House.
During a recent rally in Iowa, former President Donald Trump revealed his intention to host a UFC event on the White House grounds in 2026. This proposed event is part of his broader vision for celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in the United States.
Speaking to supporters, Trump inquired about their interest in the UFC, referencing its CEO Dana White. He outlined plans for a significant event, potentially a championship fight accommodating 20-25,000 people, to be staged on the White House grounds. He emphasized its importance, stating it would be “a big deal” as part of the anniversary events which would include various professional and amateur competitions.
It is noted that Trump shares a close relationship with UFC CEO Dana White, who has publicly supported the former president, including appearances at Republican National Conventions and campaigning during the 2020 election cycle.
Trump is a frequent presence at UFC events, often seen cageside, as highlighted by recent interactions where numerous athletes approached him after the UFC 316 card in New Jersey.
While the UFC has previously held events in Washington D.C., hosting an event directly on the White House grounds would be unprecedented for a major sport. The specific logistics remain uncertain, although the promotion did share the announcement clip on its social media.
Trump also mentioned other initiatives planned for the American 250 celebration, such as the “Patriot Games” involving youth athletes from all 50 states competing in various events.
Trump`s announcement potentially impacts the UFC`s ongoing negotiations for a new broadcast rights deal set for 2026. The prospect of hosting a high-profile event at the White House could be a significant factor in securing a lucrative partnership, reportedly sought at around $1 billion annually.
