Trevor Peek will be sidelined from fighting due to an unfortunate injury.
A training session for Peek took an unexpected turn when he suffered a freak leg injury while working out at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas. This injury has forced Peek to withdraw from his scheduled featherweight fight against Jeong Yeong Lee at UFC Des Moines on May 3.
Peek shared details of his injury in an Instagram post, which was a video where he explained what happened.
“I fractured my leg at the Performance Institute on Friday,” Peek said in the video. “It’s not a severe fracture, but I need to get CT scans to check for ligament damage.”
“It’s not an exciting story, but I was jump roping on soft mats. After about 20 minutes, I got tired and careless, landing awkwardly on my left leg. It popped loudly, like a shotgun.”
This injury delays Peek`s first fight of 2025, following a challenging 2024 with two losses to Yanal Ashmouz and Charlie Campbell, leaving his UFC record at 1-3.
Peek mentioned that if the injury hadn`t occurred at the UFC facility, he might have tried to conceal it and still compete.
“Because it happened at the UFC’s facility, they are aware of it,” Peek stated. “If I could have taped it up and hidden it to fight on May 3, I would have. I’ve fought through injuries before. But this fight is crucial for my career, so maybe it’s better that the UFC made the decision to pull me.”
Peek also mentioned speaking with UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby, and they are hoping to schedule him for the Nashville event on July 12. It is unclear if the UFC will find a replacement opponent for Lee for the Des Moines event.
