After securing a victory at UFC 317 in Las Vegas, Tracy Cortez spoke with reporters. She discussed various topics, including her dissatisfaction with her own performance, her decision to express support for the Mexican community in light of recent ICE activities, and the health concerns that have affected her fight schedule.
Explaining her post-fight comments, Cortez stated that a significant portion of her fanbase is Mexican and part of the broader Latin community, which she feels deeply connected to. She felt it would be wrong (“coward-like”) not to address the situation publicly. She emphasized her desire for support from “mi gente” and “la raza,” noting that she represents both the Mexican and U.S. flags. She explained that her focus on the fight had prevented her from speaking out sooner and that she waited for the moment when it felt right in her heart.
She added that while she wasn`t sure if she was fully “qualified” to discuss such a sensitive issue, she wanted to nonetheless serve as a voice for the community.
