Tom Aspinall has often spoken about Jon Jones, but now it seems he`s given up trying to understand him.
As the top heavyweight contender, Aspinall has been wanting to fight Jones to unify the heavyweight titles. Aspinall is the interim champion, and Jones is the undisputed UFC champion. Aspinall has been very successful in the heavyweight division with an 8-1 UFC record and one interim title defense. Jones, previously a dominant light heavyweight champion, won the heavyweight title in March 2023 against Ciryl Gane and then defeated Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.
A fight between these two heavyweights would be logical, but Jones has rejected fighting Aspinall, saying Aspinall doesn`t deserve it.
Aspinall recently expressed optimism about the UFC`s plans for him, though it`s unclear if those plans include Jones. In a word association game on UFC on TNT Sports, Aspinall shared his thoughts on several fighters, with the most interesting response saved for Jones.
When Jones` picture appeared, Aspinall described him as a “strange guy.”
This is mild for Aspinall`s trash talk towards Jones, although he has previously made more subtle criticisms of the light heavyweight legend. A common jab from Aspinall and his fans is calling Jones a “duck” for avoiding the fight. Jones has even played along, changing his Twitter profile picture to a duck wearing a UFC belt.
Regardless of whether Jones` actions are seen as strange, cowardly, or something else, it`s up to him to decide if the fight with Aspinall will happen.
