World No. 29 tennis player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina commented on the controversial incident involving the Hawk-Eye Live system during his match against Alexander Zverev at the Madrid tournament.
The incident occurred at a score of 2/6, 5/4. Zverev believed that Davidovich Fokina`s shot was out, but the Hawk-Eye Live system indicated the ball was in. A dispute arose with the chair umpire Mohamed Lahyani, who refused to descend and check the mark on the court. After the system`s call was not changed, Zverev retrieved his phone to photograph the mark.
At the subsequent press conference, the Spanish player stated: “When I saw the mark from my side of the court, I immediately knew it was a clear error. I can`t understand how the system could determine that the ball was in. I agree with Sasha [Zverev], the system needs to be changed. This is just not normal.”
