World No. 4 Taylor Fritz commented on his defeat by Jakub Mensik in the Miami Masters semi-final with a score of 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-7(4).

“It hurts anyway. I should have won one of the two tie-breaks, played much better.

When I play well, I win. I`ve been in these situations, losing in two tie-breaks – it sucks. Everything seems to be okay, you didn`t give away a single serve, but you still lost. I didn`t have a single break point until the third set, it`s terrible.

Speaking about Mensik, he is good. I played with him at the US Open when he was just 18. Since then, he has improved a lot in all aspects. When you are so young, you have to improve. He has definitely become better at serving. When we played last time, he had a great serve, but he didn`t know how to use it. Today he served wonderfully, I could hardly do anything on приема (return). He constantly served close to the lines, it was sharp,” said Fritz at the press conference.

He also answered who would be the favorite in the Miami final – Mensik or Novak Djokovic.

“Maybe it sounds like I got burned by losing to him 10 times, but I always pick Djokovic. For me, he is always the favorite. It will be interesting to watch, I`m not sure. Are they playing in the daytime?

If they play during the day, then it`s an advantage for Mensik. During the day, Jakub`s serve will bring him more benefit, he will be able to win a lot of easy points with it. Let`s see. The question is how well he will be able to serve. I think if Novak is good at приема (return), then it will be very difficult to defeat him.”
