Despite its title, Super Mario Galaxy, and the prominent roles of Rosalina and the Lumas, the upcoming animated Super Mario film promises a rich tapestry of references spanning the entire franchise. This includes elements like Tostarena and the Tyrannosaurus Rex from Super Mario Odyssey; Yoshi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi, who first appeared in Super Mario World and Yoshi’s Island; Wonder Bowser Jr. from Super Mario Bros. Wonder; the Piantas inhabitants of Isle Delfino in Super Mario Sunshine; and Wart and Birdo from Super Mario Bros. 2. These are just some of the glimpses from the latest previews presented by Universal Pictures and Nintendo, with many more surprises expected upon the highly anticipated sequel’s release.

While in Yoshi’s Island, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi are delivered by a stork to their parents’ home before being intercepted by Kamek, their appearance in this movie might suggest a transformation of the adult versions of Mario and Luigi. Both adult and baby versions have co-existed in sports and racing games, but a more narrative-driven explanation, similar to AlphaDream’s RPG Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, could involve time travel.

Additionally, thanks to McDonald’s, we’ve also seen the collectible figures and toys for Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie that will be included in the Happy Meal. This includes an interactive Yoshi toy that can crack its shell and hatch.

Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie is scheduled to premiere on April 1st in many parts of the world, and on Thursday, April 2nd, in Colombia.
