Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jake Walman faced fines for two separate incidents during Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.
The NHL Department of Player Safety issued a $5,000 fine to Walman for roughing Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk. This fine stemmed from Walman being observed throwing punches at Tkachuk during a scrum near the Panthers` net.
The Oilers` blueliner also incurred another $5,000 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct directed at the Panthers` bench. The incident involved Walman squirting a water bottle over the glass towards the opposing team`s bench late in the second period.
Walman accumulated six penalty minutes over the course of Game 3 and did not register a point for the first time in the series.
Monday`s contest saw a combined total of 140 penalty minutes assessed to the Oilers and Panthers. A major line brawl broke out midway through the second frame, resulting in misconduct penalties for six players, including Sam Bennett, Mattias Ekholm, and Darnell Nurse.
The Panthers leveraged their depth to take control from the start, ultimately winning Game 3 decisively with a 6-1 score.
