Luciano Spalletti has acknowledged that Juventus is progressing positively, evidenced by their increased lead over fifth place and diminishing gap to second. He emphasized the players’ mutual care and willingness to share responsibilities.
The Bianconeri started strongly, securing an early lead within 90 seconds through a header from Jonathan David. Khephren Thuram extended their advantage after halftime, converting Weston McKennie’s cross. While other attempts by Emil Holm and Jonathan Rowe hit the woodwork, and Francisco Conceicao had a goal disallowed for offside, the match concluded with a decisive 2-0 victory for Juventus.
Spalletti Appreciates Juventus’ Team Atmosphere
When asked about the players’ choreographed goal celebration for Thuram, Spalletti expressed his delight. “I don’t know what they devised amongst themselves, but seeing them celebrate together like that is wonderful,” he commented to DAZN Italia. “It’s a joy to witness a player score and want to share that excitement with his teammates and the fans. This stems from the affection and rapport between the players, and when you offer friendship, you receive it in return. As they say, if you seek a friend, act like one.”
This win is a significant boost for Juventus, who, by capitalizing on results from Como, Roma, and Atalanta, have now established a five-point lead in fourth place. Even more notably, they are now only three points behind Milan and Napoli, who are level in second, with a crucial match against the Rossoneri scheduled for the following week.
“Given the other results, the absolute worst thing we could have done was to let our intensity drop, believing we could maintain our position regardless of our performance. That was the risk, so we needed to start with the right attitude and sustain it,” Spalletti explained. “We were aware that Bologna had a demanding week with travel and their Europa League commitments, so we knew that maintaining our intensity would give us a significant advantage. Everyone executed this very well, and we scored early. There were moments when Bologna’s quality pushed us back, but that’s unavoidable when facing a strong team like Vincenzo Italiano’s.”
It appears the season shifted direction for Juventus on March 1st when they fought back from a 3-1 deficit to draw 3-3 against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. Since then, they have secured victory in five out of six matches, while Roma has visibly struggled.
Prior to the match, Spalletti had downplayed suggestions that Juventus should be title contenders next season, but he acknowledges that it’s an eventual prospect. “There is certainly a great deal of responsibility and pressure here, but the team is striving to play good football, the players care for each other, and they are prepared to share the burden, which is fundamental for a coach,” he stated. “We are on the right track, and every day I see further progress, so we are determined to continue in this manner.”
