Milan Under Strain Without Leao; Torino Finds New Momentum

AC Milan is facing considerable pressure, especially with their star player Rafael Leao unavailable. For today’s match against Torino at San Siro, the Rossoneri’s starting lineup will feature Niclas Fullkrug, Christian Pulisic, and Adrien Rabiot. Their opponents, Torino, are undergoing a notable transformation under new coach Roberto D’Aversa.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 17:00 GMT (18:00 CET).

Recent Results and Squad Changes

Following a triumphant victory over rivals Inter that reignited their Scudetto hopes, an unexpected defeat to Lazio has pushed Milan back, leaving them closer to fifth place in the league table than the top spot. Compounding the situation is Rafael Leao’s adductor injury, reportedly sustained after an emotional substitution; he is sidelined along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Matteo Gabbia.

Consequently, Fullkrug will lead the attack, supported by Pulisic. A positive note for Milan fans is the return of Santiago Gimenez, who, for the first time since his ankle injury in October, is included in the squad and will start on the bench. Adrien Rabiot, having served his suspension, returns to the midfield to strengthen it alongside Luka Modric, while Davide Bartesaghi, recovered from injury, replaces Pervis Estupinan.

Torino, after dismissing coach Marco Baroni due to a series of unsatisfactory results, has noticeably revitalized since D’Aversa’s arrival this month. Under his leadership, the team secured two convincing victories against Lazio and Parma, with their only defeat being a narrow 2-1 loss to Napoli.

Regarding Torino, Zakaria Aboukhlal, Alieu Njie, and Zanos Savva will not participate in this match. The attacking trio will comprise Nikola Vlasic, Giovanni Simeone, and Duvan Zapata, with Che Adams and January signing Sandro Kulenovic ready to come off the bench.

In their last head-to-head meeting in December, Milan clinched a 3-2 victory in Turin, which ended a streak where Torino had collected only one point from three previous matches against the Rossoneri.
