Juventus secured a vital 2-0 win against Bologna, thanks to goals from Jonathan David and Khephren Thuram. This victory extends Juventus’ lead in fourth place to five points and brings them within three points of joint second-placed teams Milan and Napoli.
The Bianconeri were motivated to capitalize on dropped points by Napoli, Como, and Roma. However, they faced absences due to injuries, with Kenan Yildiz only fit for the bench and several key players like Arek Milik and Dusan Vlahovic out. Weston McKennie returned from suspension, while Emil Holm and Joao Mario faced their parent clubs.
Bologna, still recovering from a significant Europa League defeat, were also hampered by several missing players. The match began with a poignant tribute to former Juventus and Bologna goalkeeper Alex Manninger, who tragically passed away at 48. Former teammates honored him with a moving ceremony before kick-off.
Juventus started the game with immediate intensity. Within 110 seconds, Jonathan David headed home a Pierre Kalulu cross to give his team an early lead. This goal was particularly notable as Bologna had maintained a clean sheet in the first half of their Serie A matches for the previous two months.
Francisco Conceicao had a goal disallowed for offside shortly after. Juventus continued to press, with Tommaso Pobega firing wide and Federico Ravaglia making a crucial one-on-one save against Conceicao. Emil Holm also came close to scoring a spectacular goal, hitting the underside of the crossbar with a powerful volley.
David nearly doubled the lead before halftime, with his angled shot skimming the post. After the break, Riccardo Orsolini registered Bologna’s first significant chance, but his strike went narrowly wide.
The decisive second goal came in the 57th minute when substitute Khephren Thuram, just on the field, rose to head home a Weston McKennie cross. Bologna had a golden opportunity to pull one back when Jonathan Rowe struck the upright from close range after a cross from Nadir Zortea.
Despite further attempts from Nikola Moro, Juventus held firm. Bologna’s hopes of a comeback were dealt a blow when Federico Bernardeschi was forced off injured just eight minutes after coming on. With all substitutions made, Bologna finished the match with 10 men.
