Sam Alvey secured the most significant knockout of his career in the main event of Karate Combat 54 held in Dubai on Friday.
The promotion`s reigning light heavyweight champion moved up a weight class to vie for a second title against the accomplished combat sports figure, Tyrone Spong. Alvey demonstrated sharp and effective striking from the outset, using leg kicks and punch combinations to trouble Spong.
Early in the second round, an accidental eye-poke briefly paused the fight. However, upon resuming, Alvey landed a powerful left hand that sent Spong to the canvas. Another connecting punch ensured the veteran kickboxer was knocked out cold.
Speaking after his victory, Alvey commented on facing Spong: “I felt great, but there is no denying he’s the most intimidating man alive. He just has that look, he got that resume that cannot be touched. I was honored to train for. I don’t think I’ve ever trained harder. He is the man.”
Now maintaining an undefeated 4-0 record in Karate Combat and holding titles in two weight categories, Alvey issued a challenge for his first defense of the heavyweight championship.
Alvey stated his intentions: “You know what I wanna do? First, I gotta defend my light heavyweight belt. I’m going back down. But second — record this everyone —, Eddie Hall, I’m going to kick your ass — respectfully. You’re incredible. I’ve seen what you’re doing. I want a piece.”
