Preview Revelations: Doom Slayer’s Return to Hell in New Doom: The Dark Ages DLC

During the June 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, id Software unveiled Revelations, the first major expansion for Doom: The Dark Ages. A year after the main game’s release, a trailer showed the Doom Slayer returning to the depths of Hell.

The expansion’s narrative presents an intriguing premise: the Doom Slayer is stripped of his armor and cast into Hell. Given The Dark Ages‘ chronological placement within the Doom timeline, this event may mark the protagonist’s initial encounter with the infernal realm. There are also hints that the DLC might offer glimpses of the original Doom game, though it remains unclear if these will be purely nostalgic nods.

Revelations DLC Release Date for Doom: The Dark Ages

Revelations, the new DLC for Doom: The Dark Ages, is scheduled for release on July 7th. It will be available simultaneously on all platforms where the game is present.

A key addition in this expansion is the departure from the Doom Slayer’s iconic shield, a staple of his equipment in the main campaign. In its place, he will wield a formidable spear, which will be central to the gameplay.

The new trailer confirms that this new weapon not only allows for long-range attacks but also functions as a grappling hook when thrown. Players will see the Doom Slayer using the spear to navigate platforming sections and to quickly propel himself towards demons, closing the distance before finishing them off with his shotgun. To date, id Software has not specified if Revelations will be the only downloadable content for Doom: The Dark Ages, unlike its predecessor, Doom Eternal, which received multiple expansions post-launch.
