The boxing match between Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson, which was scheduled for next weekend, has been cancelled.
These two former UFC champions were supposed to be the main attraction at ICS Mania 1 on April 12 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
ICS Boxing initially announced that the event on April 12 would still take place, with the undercard and co-main event happening as planned. They also stated that Rashad Evans would face a different opponent.
However, it now seems that Evans will not be fighting at this event at all, regardless of whether Jackson is involved. Evans released a statement explaining the situation.
In his statement, Evans said that this was a decision they didn`t want to make, as they knew fans were excited about the event, and they were looking forward to it too. He mentioned that they encountered unexpected problems with the promotion, and some crucial contract terms were not fulfilled as agreed.
Despite this cancellation, Evans hopes to box against Jackson in the future.
Evans and Jackson have fought once before in UFC at UFC 114 in May 2010. Evans won that non-title main event by unanimous decision after they coached against each other on season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter. Evans returned to combat sports in 2022 after retiring, winning a decision against Gabriel Checco for Eagle FC.
Jackson has not fought since December 2019 when he suffered a first-round knockout loss to Fedor Emelianenko at Bellator 237. Throughout his career in UFC and PRIDE, “Rampage” had a record of 20 wins and 10 losses, and he won five out of eight fights in Bellator.
