Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), owner of Paris Saint-Germain, has officially confirmed its intention to bid for the NBA Europe league. While the club’s interest in this ambitious project has been a subject of speculation for several weeks, this statement marks a formal confirmation of their commitment. QSI emphasized that they are working on the application “actively and positively” without disclosing further specific details.
Although the Parisian club does not currently possess its own dedicated basketball section, unlike prominent European clubs such as Real Madrid or FC Barcelona, PSG already boasts significant ties to the basketball world. Notably, the club maintains a high-profile sponsorship contract with the Jordan brand. Furthermore, NBA superstar Kevin Durant is recognized as a minority shareholder in the club, illustrating existing connections within the sport.
The NBA has established March 31 as the initial deadline for the submission of all application files. This crucial date is set to occur shortly after the upcoming NBA Board of Governors meeting, during which the comprehensive NBA Europe league project is widely expected to receive official endorsement. This approval will mark a pivotal step forward for this expansive and promising basketball initiative.
