Torrez Finney`s first UFC fight was certainly memorable, though not entirely for positive reasons.
After three attempts on the Contender Series, Finney debuted at UFC Vegas 105 against Robert Valentin in a fight that quickly became a talking point.
While Finney`s wrestling-heavy approach didn`t impress fellow fighters (evident in their social media reactions), the real issue arose after the fight. Finney secured a split decision victory (29-28, 29-28), but judge Tony Weeks controversially scored the bout 30-27 for Valentin.
This scorecard was highly questionable. Finney`s grappling effectively shut down Valentin`s attacks, even if Finney himself didn`t mount significant offense. Many fighters openly criticized Weeks` decision.
Corey Anderson`s tweet, “Fire that judge on sight,” exemplified the strong reactions.
