Former world No. 33 Paolo Lorenzi has shared his thoughts on the performance of top tennis players during the absence of world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The Italian player is currently serving a three-month suspension.
Lorenzi commented, “They are struggling to find consistency. It`s been tough for the top players. Apart from Sinner, there isn`t a significant gap between the rest. When they are not at their peak, they are vulnerable.”
“Take Alcaraz, for example, he`s very inconsistent. We expected him to seize the opportunity with Sinner out and reclaim the world No. 1 ranking, but instead, he`s facing stability issues that he needs to address quickly.”
“The same applies to others. Zverev went to South America to gain points, but he encountered challenging conditions there.”
“Regarding the rest, I don`t see them having a huge advantage over their rivals. They have many problems. I expected more from Zverev, Alcaraz, and even Novak Djokovic.”
Lorenzi concluded, “Sinner has improved dramatically compared to the others. To catch up with him, the rest are changing their game and trying to improve. This, of course, takes time, and that`s what leads to defeats.”
