World No. 5 Jasmine Paolini discussed the significant role that Sara Errani plays in her career achievements. Paolini addressed the topic after reaching the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome.
Asked about being the first Italian finalist in Rome since her former doubles partner Errani, and how much Errani has helped her, particularly this week, Paolini responded, “Yes, she`s sort of part of my team. She watches my matches very often. In the last match, she played a key role; she helped me a lot.”
Paolini added that reaching the final, just as Errani did in the past, feels “amazing” and “simply great.”
Addressing a question about the pressure and expectations that make it difficult for some players to replicate success after a breakthrough season, Paolini explained her mindset for performing well this year following her achievements in the previous one.
“I try to keep in mind that last year was great, and it gave me confidence that I need to remember and a lot of acquired experience,” she stated. “At the same time, this year is a completely different story, a new start.”
Paolini concluded, “I kind of remind myself, `Look, you had an amazing season last year,` and I try to use that to move forward,” she said during the press conference.
