World No. 6 Novak Djokovic commented on his victory over Marton Fucsovics at the start of the Geneva Open, winning 6/2, 6/3. This win marked the Serb`s first match victory on clay this season, ending a three-match losing streak.
“It`s great that I finally, so to speak, `broke the ice`,” Djokovic said in an on-court interview. “Clay is a very demanding surface; we all know how difficult it is compared to others. Here you always have to be ready to play one or two extra shots.”
He added, “The altitude is slightly higher here, so a good serve helps. I think my serve was my main shot today. I had a high first-serve percentage, and I won a lot of points thanks to my serve. When I had to get out of a difficult situation, I hit a first serve, and that makes life a bit easier on court.”
“I`m very happy that I was able to show my best tennis when it was needed. I maintained concentration throughout the match, I`m satisfied with my level. Hopefully I can continue in the same vein,” Djokovic concluded.
