World number six Novak Djokovic commented on achieving his 100th career victory at Wimbledon. Djokovic defeated Miomir Kecmanovic with a score of 6/3, 6/0, 6/4 to reach the significant milestone on the grass-court Major. This places him second on the all-time list for most men`s singles wins at the tournament, trailing only Roger Federer, who holds 105 victories.
“I`ve said many times that tennis has made me who I am today,” Djokovic stated. “It has given me so much in life and provided countless unique experiences. I truly try not to take anything for granted, especially at my age. I`m still competing against younger players, running, sliding, and doing splits on the court.”
He continued, “Wimbledon isn`t just my favorite tournament; it`s a dream for the majority of tennis players. Almost every child dreams of playing and winning here, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have achieved that multiple times. Any history I am able to write here at my cherished tournament is a tremendous honor for me.”
Regarding young players, Djokovic was asked about Jannik Sinner:
Yannick [Sinner] said the other day that he`s taken more from you than any other player in terms of how he plays. When you look at him, do you see a version of yourself? Or traits of your game?
“Yes, I do,” Djokovic replied. “Obviously, we share a similar playing style. We aim to be aggressive and dominate rallies from the baseline. I remember meeting him when he was quite young – around 13 or 14 – and hitting with him a bit. He was thin and tall, in some ways similar to myself. Even back then, he hit the ball with significant power. It was evident he possessed excellent timing and shot speed. He even uses the same Head Speed racket model as I do. There are definitely quite a few common aspects.”
“However, he is certainly unique in his own right,” Djokovic added. “The work he and his team have put in over the past few years is truly impressive in terms of his development. Regardless of comments about his shot speed, his timing is simply incredible. I believe he has significantly reduced the unforced errors that were present earlier in his career. Now, he is remarkably precise and maintains constant pressure on opponents because of his very fast game,” concluded Djokovic at the press conference.
