Gotham FC has revoked a fan`s season ticket and banned them from future events. This action follows an investigation that confirmed the fan used hateful language towards Orlando Pride`s player, Barbra Banda.
After a thorough investigation with the NWSL, staff, and stadium security, Gotham FC stated they interviewed witnesses, reviewed security footage, and security logs. The club concluded that the fan violated the NWSL Fan Code of Conduct.
The incident happened at Sports Illustrated Stadium during Gotham`s 2-0 loss to the Pride on March 23rd. Stadium security responded quickly when the incident was reported and addressed the individual at the game. Gotham FC, Orlando Pride, and the NWSL have all expressed their support for Barbra Banda.
This isn`t the first time Banda has faced hateful language. Notably, author J.K. Rowling attacked her in November after Banda was named BBC`s Woman Footballer of the Year. Rowling misgendered Banda in a post on X.
The Pride, the NWSL Players Association, and executive director Meghann Burke defended Banda against Rowling`s comments. Burke criticized Rowling`s remarks as insulting, racist, and dishonest, stating strong support for Banda.
