The second round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs saw the Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers establish commanding 3-1 leads in their respective series following key victories in Game 4 on Monday.
In the Eastern Conference, the Hurricanes secured a 5-2 home win over the Washington Capitals. Carolina held the lead throughout the game, although Washington managed to close the gap to a single goal twice thanks to goals from Jakob Chychrun and Alex Ovechkin. Forward Taylor Hall was a difference-maker for the Hurricanes, netting the game-winning goal and assisting on Sean Walker`s insurance marker shortly after.
Out West, the Edmonton Oilers delivered a dominant 3-0 shutout against the Vegas Golden Knights. Veteran forward Adam Henrique had a standout performance with two goals, his first multi-goal playoff game since 2012. Evander Kane also contributed a goal and an assist. Goaltender Stuart Skinner, stepping in for the injured Calvin Pickard, was perfect, stopping all 24 shots faced to earn the shutout.
Playoff action continues Tuesday with the Dallas Stars hosting the Winnipeg Jets in Game 4 of their second-round series. Winnipeg is looking to even the series after falling 5-2 to Dallas in Game 3 on Sunday.
