The Dallas Stars now hold a 2-1 series lead over the Winnipeg Jets after a decisive 5-2 victory in Game 3 on Sunday. While the Stars performed strongly at home, the Florida Panthers managed a late push for a 2-0 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs, evening their series at 2-2.
For Dallas, their first home game of the series saw them looking very comfortable. The game was tied 2-2 heading into the third period before the Stars scored three consecutive goals to pull ahead. Alex Petrovic`s game-winning goal was subject to some controversy over a potential kicking motion, but it was ultimately upheld after a lengthy video review. Mikko Rantanen was a standout player once again for Dallas, contributing a goal and two assists and continuing his recent hot streak.
In the other game played, the Panthers effectively shut down the Maple Leafs offense to secure a 2-0 win in Game 4. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was stellar, stopping all 22 shots he faced and bouncing back nicely with a shutout performance after experiencing some misfortune in Game 3.
Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Bennett were the goal scorers for Florida. The series will now return to Toronto for Game 5. A key question for Wednesday is whether the trend of the home team winning continues for a fifth straight game, or if the Panthers can break this pattern and achieve their third consecutive victory.
Looking ahead, Monday features two important Game 4s. The Carolina Hurricanes have an opportunity to bring the Washington Capitals to the brink of elimination, and the Edmonton Oilers could potentially do the same to the Vegas Golden Knights.
