Brad Marchand was instrumental in carrying the Florida Panthers to a 5-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in double overtime during Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. Marchand netted two goals in the game, leveling the series at one game each as it shifts to South Florida.
The game began with rapid, intense scoring, with both teams combining for five goals in the first period. This was the highest-scoring first period in the Stanley Cup Final since 2016, when the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks also collectively scored five.
Marchand`s goals were set up through combined efforts, notably with teammate Anton Lundell. Lundell assisted Marchand`s double overtime winner at 8:04, pushing the puck forward to Marchand, who then slipped it past Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner off his pad.
This winning goal offered Marchand redemption, as he had a prior opportunity to end the game in the first overtime. After receiving a pass from Carter Verhaeghe, Marchand tried to score with close-range shots, but a rebound hit the post, extending the game.
Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky faced difficulties in the first period, allowing three goals. Despite this, he significantly improved, making 41 saves on 45 shots and conceding only one more goal throughout the remaining three-plus periods.
