It seems Nate Diaz is always at the center of attention, often due to unexpected events. The popular fighter`s latest adventure saw him travel to Thailand to film a reality show, similar in format to The Ultimate Fighter, alongside current UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
However, the production quickly went off the rails on the very first day. Diaz became involved in a confrontation with one of the competitors, which rapidly escalated into a full-blown brawl, causing filming to come to an abrupt halt.
On Thursday, Diaz released a vlog on his official YouTube channel providing behind-the-scenes footage from his visit to Thailand. This included glimpses of his initial meeting with Jones and the chaotic melee that soon followed.
In a pre-show interview segment alongside Jones, Diaz commented, “I`m not sure what I`ve gotten myself into… I just arrived and they were already clashing amongst themselves. Having been on The Ultimate Fighter myself, I expected things to be pretty wild.”
Although the altercation reportedly didn`t result in any serious injuries, it marked the end of the show for Diaz and his team. They promptly departed the production and continued their travels, visiting other locations in Thailand and later Hong Kong.
Diaz spoke briefly about the incident afterward, expressing his disappointment and suggesting that others were antagonizing him.
“Came out here to do a little reality show with Jon Jones,” Diaz stated. “I was looking forward to hanging out with Jones and the team and everybody… but it didn`t pan out because they were the opponents/rivals. We aren`t dealing with any of those Russians. But anyway, they weren`t messing with me, so that`s the situation.”
Diaz, who turned 40 this past April, is currently taking a break from active competition while he considers his next career move. His most recent fight in the UFC was in September 2022, where he secured a submission victory over Tony Ferguson in the final bout of his contract with the promotion. Following his UFC departure, he transitioned into professional boxing.
In his professional boxing debut, Diaz lost a unanimous decision against Jake Paul. However, he rebounded in July with a decision win over fellow former UFC contender Jorge Masvidal.
