Rose Namajunas and Miranda Maverick, both flyweight fighters, are set to compete at an upcoming UFC Fight Night event planned for Atlanta on June 14.
Sources familiar with the promotion`s plans confirmed this information to MMA Fighting after Maverick initially announced the fight on social media.
Maverick expressed her admiration for Namajunas, acknowledging her as a significant inspiration in women`s MMA. She mentioned training alongside Namajunas in the past, noting their time spent at different gyms. Maverick is excited for the opportunity to compete against Namajunas and prove her place in the division.
Recognized as a promising talent in the 125-pound division, Maverick has overcome early career challenges in the UFC and is currently on a four-fight winning streak. Her most recent victory was against Jamey-Lyn Horth in December. This upcoming fight against Namajunas will be a significant step up in competition for her.
Namajunas, widely regarded as one of the greatest strawweight fighters ever, has had a mixed record since transitioning to flyweight. While facing top-tier opponents, she holds a 2-2 record in the division, with losses to highly ranked Erin Blanchfield and Manon Fiorot via decision.
