Conor McGregor is giving strong hints that his fighting days might be over.

During a BKFC press event in Florida, McGregor suggested he`s focusing on politics rather than returning to combat sports. He mentioned declining an offer to fight on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco. The former UFC champion stated he`s content with his achievements and is drawn to something else, hinting at a future direction. He emphasized that “Greatness does not rush.”

This “something else” appears to be a run for Irish president. McGregor, 36, has been openly critical of the Irish government, particularly on immigration, and has expressed his intention to run for President to address these issues.

While McGregor hasn`t completely ruled out fighting again—he hasn`t competed since his leg injury against Dustin Poirier in July 2021—he believes any comeback would be massive and highly anticipated.

“My comeback will be slated as the greatest comeback or the biggest, most-anticipated comeback of all time, and right now Ireland is in my thoughts and that’s where I’m at,” McGregor said. “It will happen, I’m sure and it’s always great to be here and there you go.”

Reactions to McGregor`s potential return might not be as enthusiastic as he expects.

Cain Velasquez`s legal case has concluded with a no-contest plea in his attempted murder trial, resulting in jail time. Velasquez targeted a man accused of molesting his son, leading to widespread sympathy from MMA fans and fighters.

Decorated kickboxer Artem Vakhitov reportedly declined a Contender Series contract, which is unusual and caused discussion in the MMA community.

Ryan Bader, another former Bellator star, has left PFL, adding to fan frustration about recognizable fighters leaving the league for free agency.

UFC Mexico City took place, with Brandon Moreno securing a decision victory over Steve Erceg in the main event.
