Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will serve time in prison, prompting reactions of support from fellow fighters.
Velasquez was sentenced on Monday for his involvement in a February 2022 incident. He engaged in a high-speed chase and discharged a firearm at a vehicle occupied by Harry Goularte, who is awaiting trial on child molestation charges – allegations involving Velasquez`s young son.
Facing charges including attempted murder, Velasquez received a five-year prison sentence. Having pleaded no-contest, and with credit for time served, his remaining prison term is expected to be no more than two years.
Consistent with their support throughout this ordeal, fellow fighters, including former UFC champion Chris Weidman, voiced their dismay, with Weidman describing the situation as “awful.”
