Michael Page has set his sights on competing against two of the premier welterweight fighters in recent years.
Following a successful debut in the middleweight division at UFC Saudi Arabia, where he defeated Shara Magomedov, handing him his first professional loss, Page has reiterated his intention to return to the welterweight class. Despite demonstrating potential at 185 pounds, the former Bellator standout is keen on competing at welterweight.
The two fighters Page is particularly interested in facing are former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.
“Perhaps my last performance made some people hesitant, as things have been rather quiet,” Page commented at a UFC London fan event. “There are numerous potential opponents, and a fight with Usman would be exciting. I also have a strong desire to face Covington, for reasons I can`t quite explain. There are fighters available, and I am waiting for their response.”
Since joining the UFC, Page holds a 2-1 record, including a victory over Kevin Holland at UFC 299 in April. His sole defeat was a closely contested match against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 303 two months later.
If a fight with Covington materializes, Page aims for a decisive finish, reminiscent of his knockout victory over Evangelista Santos at Bellator 158 in 2016, which unfortunately marked the end of Santos` career.
“I am hoping to replicate a jumping knee strike to the face,” Page stated. “You witnessed the outcome previously, and I am aiming for a similar result.”
“[My goal is] to have two more significant fights this year. If I can fight Colby and then face another opponent ranked in the top 10 or top 5, it would be a very successful year.”
