World No. 44 Matteo Arnaldi shared his thoughts after securing a notable victory against Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round of the Madrid tournament, with a final score of 6-3, 7-5. This win marks a significant milestone for the Italian player, as it is his first career appearance in the quarterfinals of a clay-court Masters event.
“I am very happy; it was an excellent match,” Arnaldi stated. “I know Frances well; we had a tough battle at Wimbledon, so this win feels like a form of revenge. I played with confidence and managed the key moments effectively. Although I couldn`t serve out the match at 5-4 in the second set, I immediately broke back in the following game. Earlier this year, I defeated Djokovic, and two years ago, Ruud, but after those wins, I often lost in straight sets, so I knew I needed to improve my game. The main focus now is to maintain concentration, continue refining my skills, and work diligently. These last two matches have been challenging, and I am eagerly anticipating the next one.”
