Manuel Torres achieved a significant victory at UFC Mexico, though the way it ended sparked debate.

While Torres`s first-round knockout of Drew Dober was decisive, with Dober clearly hurt by a right hand and finished with hammer fists, some questioned if referee Mike Beltran stopped the fight too late.

UFC lightweight fighter Renato Moicano even made a social media post referencing the movie Rocky 4, alluding to a dangerous situation for Dober.

During the post-fight press conference, Torres was asked to share his thoughts on the controversy.

Speaking through a translator, Torres explained that he noticed the referee didn`t stop the fight despite him inflicting significant damage. As a professional, he continued fighting. However, he admitted that he felt his opponent was already in trouble before the fight was stopped.

Torres acknowledged the fight could have been stopped sooner. He also suggested that referee Beltran might not have had a clear view of Dober`s condition at the moment of stoppage. Dober`s face was partially hidden as he was holding onto Torres`s leg while being hit with hammer fists.

Despite this, many observers felt Beltran had enough visual cues to stop the fight earlier. Torres doesn`t blame the referee for the potential mistake.

Torres stated that in certain positions, these situations can occur. He elaborated that because Drew Dober was looking down, it might have been difficult for the referee to determine Dober`s state. Torres believes referees could improve in these specific scenarios, but understands it was a challenging position for Beltran.

Ultimately, Torres had to keep fighting until the referee intervened. After the stoppage, Dober quickly stood up, seemingly unaware the fight was over.

Regardless of the controversy, Torres is now aiming for bigger opportunities after securing four wins and four performance bonuses in his first UFC fights. He hopes to compete at the upcoming UFC 320 event in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Torres expressed his desire to be on the Mexican card scheduled for September 13th. He emphasized his dedication to representing Mexico and his ambition to face a top 15 ranked opponent in Mexico.
