Preview LA Protests Lead Mexico National Soccer Team to Switch Hotels Due to Security Concerns Ahead of Gold Cup

With the start of the Concacaf Gold Cup approaching this weekend, the Mexican national soccer team has altered its lodging arrangements in Los Angeles, citing safety concerns, according to reports from ESPN. Originally booked in downtown Los Angeles, the team, known as El Tri, will now move to Long Beach to avoid potential unrest in the city center. Mexico`s first game in the Gold Cup is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, against the Dominican Republic.

The reason for the team`s hotel change is the ongoing anti-ICE protests, which have been taking place in the Los Angeles area for five nights. Given the deployment of National Guard troops and U.S. Marines in the city, Concacaf permitted this last-minute alteration to the team`s plans.

As the defending champions of the Concacaf Gold Cup, Mexico aims to secure its third consecutive victory in a regional tournament, following their triumph in the Concacaf Nations League in March. Placed in Group A alongside Costa Rica, Suriname, and the Dominican Republic, this Gold Cup serves as their final major competitive event before they co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Canada and the United States.
